Here are some of the questions we get asked by researchers who are looking to add custom websites or mobile apps to their research projects.
How much will it cost?
You’ve probably already guessed that the answer to this question is, “It depends.” Our projects are too varied to be able to apply a one-size-fits-all answer. But we will work with you and your budget to find solutions which meet your goals while staying within your means.
How long will it take?
Again, this will depend on your project. But at Soft Crow we use a modified scrum process to ensure that our clients see results early and often. This ensures that our team never strays too far from the goal of making your project successful.
Who owns the results?
You do. All of our contracts make it explicitly clear that the final results, both software and data, belong to our partner. We also provide the fully working, documented code for those who want it. This means that anyone we partner with will always have the ability to use and/or publish everything created for the project.
Can you make both iPhone and Android apps?
Yep. Also: the iPad or Android tablets, Amazon’s Kindle, Mac or Windows applications, web-based applications, and more. For mobile apps, we use a development platform called Unity. It was originally developed for video games, but has become a standard for all types of applications. We prefer Unity because it allows us to use the same code for multiple platforms; this shortens the development time and ensures that all your participants have the same user experience, no matter what device they use.
Should we use our own graphics, or will you make them?
That’s really up to you. Our designs are professional looking, but not really “stylish” (see this website as an example). If you want something fancier, we can use your graphics or work with a local graphic artist.
Sounds good. What are the next steps?
If you have a particular project you’re planning for, let us know how we might help. We are happy to talk through the possibilities at no charge. If it makes sense to continue, we can work out a contract and get going. Looking forward to it!
